St. Claude vet clinic steps up to help pets amid Portage vet closure

The recent closure of the Portage la Prairie Veterinary Hospital on Nov. 22 has left a noticeable gap in the community, impacting both pet owners and the remaining veterinary services in the area. So far, no other vets have been able to keep the hospital open, but plans may be in the works. St. Claude and surrounding areas are helping pick up the slack from the lack of services, as well as keeping patient files in their facility.

KF Aerospace renews 10-year Purolator contract with fleet upgrade

KF Aerospace has secured a 10-year renewal of its contract with Purolator to operate the British Columbia Feeder Network, marking nearly five decades of partnership between the two companies. The agreement includes a fleet upgrade to ATR72-500F aircraft, a move aimed at enhancing the efficiency and reliability of cargo transportation across the province. The fleet will replace KF Aerospace’s existing Convair aircraft with three modernized ATR72-500Fs — two configured for containerized cargo and one for bulk loading.

Sharilyn Knox elected Chair of City Caucus at AMM Fall Convention

Sharilyn Knox, Mayor of Portage la Prairie, has been elected as the Chair of the City Caucus at the Association of Manitoba Municipalities (AMM) 26th annual Fall Convention on Monday, Nov. 25. This prestigious position allows Knox to represent and advocate for the interests of Manitoba’s cities over the next two years. Knox shared her enthusiasm about the new role, which will see her collaborate with the mayors of the 10 cities in Manitoba. The cities collectively represent 62% of the province’s population.

Portage Terriers hosting third annual Ag Expo

The Portage Terriers hosted their third annual Ag Expo on Thursday, Nov. 28 at Stride Place, offering a day of agriculture-focused programming, food, and hockey. The event included a keynote presentation at 5:30 p.m. in the Daily Graphic Room. Guest speakers Jen Christensen, CPA, CGA, and Alex Strachan, P.Ag, delivered a talk titled Beyond the Harvest: Future-Proofing Your Farm Against Risks. The 45-minute session concluded with a question-and-answer segment.

Construction of Portage Commons project underway

A new $18-million mixed-use development project, Portage Commons, is set to transform the Saskatchewan Avenue West corridor, offering 54 affordable housing units and eight commercial storefronts in a four-storey, modern building. The project, spearheaded by Dakota Tipi First Nation in partnership with federal, provincial, and the City of Portage la Prairie as partners Kenmare Developments and Tachia Developments, is being hailed as a significant step toward economic reconciliation.

Game On Simulations opens doors in Portage la Prairie

A new entertainment business combining state-of-the-art golf simulators and a cutting-edge gun simulation system opened Nov. 24 in Portage la Prairie. Game On Simulations promises to be a hub for golf enthusiasts, gamers, and party-goers alike. Co-owners Josh Black and Riley Alarie, both Portage residents, say the business is a dream come true. Alarie, who came up with the concept after being laid off last winter, said his passion for golf and entrepreneurship fuelled the venture.
