Thompson school destroyed in fire

An elementary school in Thompson was destroyed by fire on Wednesday morning. The fire is believed to have started around 3:20 a.m.

Police said they believe no one was inside Westwood School at the time and no injuries have been reported.

Officers and the fire department were on the scene throughout the morning as the fire continued to burn.

Thompson Fire Department along with Vale Manitoba Operations Mine Rescue Firefighters were on scene attempting to extinguish the flames.

The cause of the fire has not been determined and remains under investigation.

Thompson RCMP, along with the Office of the Fire Commissioner continue to investigate.
