Traffic expected to be disrupted by downtown protest

Winnipeg police warned that a planned protest Wednesday at noon at the iconic Portage and Main intersection, which could move towards police headquarters, will likely cause traffic disruptions.

Residents and commuters are advised to anticipate possible road closures in the downtown area during the protest. The WPS encourages the public to plan alternative routes and to remain patient as events unfold.

While peaceful demonstrations are a fundamental right, the WPS emphasizes that all participants are expected to behave lawfully, courteously, and respectfully. WPS said in a press release that violence or unlawful behaviour will not be tolerated under any circumstances, and the WPS has assured the public that it will respond appropriately and professionally to any incidents of this nature.

Police said they are committed to maintaining public safety and minimizing disruptions as much as possible while respecting the right to protest. Citizens are reminded to stay informed of traffic updates and to avoid affected areas if possible.
