Police monitored the situation, using real-time updates provided by the owner from the back of the truck. Attempts to exit the vehicle were unsuccessful due to erratic driving. Officers attempted to deploy a tire deflation device near Brandon Avenue and Osborne Street, but the truck continued at high speed and collided with an unmarked Winnipeg Police Service canine unit travelling northbound.
The impact ejected the owner and his friend from the truck’s box, resulting in serious injuries. Both were taken to the hospital. The canine unit officer sustained injuries and was treated and released from the hospital, while the police dog was unharmed. The suspects, who sustained non-serious injuries, were arrested near the collision site.
