Two on the run, four arrested after police crack drug trafficking ring

An investigation by the Winnipeg Police Service’s Guns & Gangs Unit, initiated in November 2024, has led to the identification of several suspects and the seizure of drugs, firearms, and other items. The investigation focused on individuals believed to be involved in drug trafficking.

On Wednesday at 8:30 a.m., investigators saw two suspects in a 2004 Jeep Compass at a storage locker in the 1200 block of Notre Dame Avenue. A traffic stop was attempted, but the driver fled east on Notre Dame Avenue. During the escape, the vehicle collided with multiple vehicles near Sargent Avenue and Edmonton Street, including a school bus with its safety lights activated. No injuries were reported. The Jeep was later found abandoned in a parking lot in the 800 block of St. James Street, where 13.3 grams of fentanyl were recovered.

Later that morning, at 10:22 a.m., police arrested a 42-year-old man near a residence on Spence Street. His arrest led to the seizure of drugs, including cocaine, methamphetamine, and fentanyl, along with illegal cigarettes and drug-related paraphernalia.

Search warrants executed at the storage locker and the Spence Street residence uncovered further items, including a .22LR calibre rifle with loaded magazines, significant quantities of drugs, illegal cigarettes, and stolen musical instruments. The seized drugs included fentanyl valued at $163,500, methamphetamine valued at $32,700, and cocaine valued at $23,200. Approximately $25,745 in cash was also recovered.

A Winnipeg man faces multiple charges related to drug trafficking, firearms offences, and court breaches.

Three others have been charged in connection with the investigation. All three face charges related to drug trafficking and possession of contraband tobacco. All four individuals were released on Undertakings as mandated by the Criminal Code.

Police have issued warrants for two men they suspect fled from the Jeep Compass, Cory Kozmenski and Kevan Anderson. Police warn people not to approach the suspects as they are considered armed and dangerous.

Police encourage anyone with information on the whereabouts of Kozmenski or Anderson to call 911 immediately. Those who believe their vehicle may have been involved in collisions related to the incident are urged to report online or call 204-986-6222.
