The COVID-19 vaccine will be widely accessible from Oct. 15. These vaccines are especially recommended for those at higher risk of infection or severe disease, as well as for caregivers and close contacts of vulnerable individuals.

People at greater risk include seniors aged 65 and older, residents in long-term care facilities, pregnant individuals, young children between six months and five years old, Indigenous people, and those with chronic health conditions.

Influenza and COVID-19 can cause nose, throat, airways, and lung infections. These infections spread through airborne droplets when someone talks, coughs, or sneezes or through contact with contaminated surfaces. Public health advises everyone to follow basic health measures to protect against the spread of these viruses. This includes staying home when feeling unwell, regular hand washing, covering coughs and sneezes, and considering masks in indoor settings.

Vaccines are a key preventive measure, and those interested can visit Manitoba’s website for more information on respiratory diseases and vaccination resources.
