Winnipeg man arrested after eight women assaulted between June and September

A Winnipeg man is facing several charges of sexual assault after police connected eight victims to a spree of sexual assaults.

The Winnipeg Police Service’s Sex Crimes Unit began investigating a series of sexual assaults that occurred between June and September of 2024 in and around the downtown area.

Investigators interviewed eight women who were victims and connected a suspect to the following incidents:

On June 2, at approximately 8:30 p.m., a 19-year-old female was approached from behind in a retail store in the 1600 block of Kenaston Boulevard. On Sept. 25, at approximately 6 p.m., a 41-year-old female was approached from behind in the first 100 block of Balmoral Street, followed by a second incident 25 minutes later involving a 35-year-old female in the same area. The following night, at approximately 9:50 p.m., a 31-year-old female was approached from behind near Ellice Avenue and Hargrave Street. On Sept. 27, at 7:32 p.m., a 37-year-old female was targeted near Edmonton Street, and shortly after, between 7:45 and 8:00 p.m., a 36-year-old female was approached near Corydon Avenue and Nassau Street North. On Sept. 28, at 10:34 p.m., two 24-year-old females were approached from behind in the area of Osborne Street and Granite Way.

With the help of the Grand Rapids RCMP, police identified and arrested the suspect on Oct. 20, at a residence in the 500 block of Sterling Lyon Parkway. The suspect, a 27-year-old male from Winnipeg, faces nine charges of sexual assault. He was released on an Undertaking as required by the Criminal Code.

The suspect and victims were not known to each other. The investigation is ongoing, and anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Sex Crimes Unit or Crime Stoppers.
