An employee told Winnipeg police of a large-scale theft investigation in January. A 30-year-old male employee was charged with multiple theft-related and possession of property-related charges from stealing and selling Apple electronic products on Jan. 22, police said in a release. He was released on an undertaking.

Searches of the man’s residence and vehicle turned up a stolen laptop, cellular phone and money believed to be obtained from the sale of the products via online classified advertisements, police said. It’s believed the man stole in-transit electronics valued at $1.4 million US, or about $1.928 million CAD, between Sept. 2023 and mid-January.

In March, police said the man deposited over $900,000 in Canadian funds from the sales into personal accounts and used some of the proceeds to buy a house valued at more than $600,000.

He was arrested again on Wednesday and also charged with laundering proceeds of crime, then released by way of Crown consent.
