Winnipeg man charged after attempted robbery at store on Portage Avenue

Winnipeg police responded to a commercial robbery at a business in the 3600 block of Portage Avenue at approximately 5 p.m. on Tuesday.

Officers arrived on the scene to find a male suspect still present and took him into custody without incident.

Police said the suspect entered the store and informed staff that he intended to steal. He then approached the cashier counter, brandished a small, edged weapon and raised it in a threatening manner. No injuries were reported during the incident.

A 33-year-old Winnipeg man has been charged with robbery and fail to comply with a condition of release order. He was detained in custody.
