Winnipeg man charged after officer threatened with knife

Winnipeg police arrested a 28-year-old man in the Point Douglas area Thursday afternoon after an incident involving a knife and a replica firearm.

Police officers in the area on an unrelated matter saw a man matching a suspect’s description in the rear lane of the first 100 block of Lorne Avenue.

As an officer exited their vehicle, the suspect brandished a knife and attempted to stab the officer through an open window. Using the vehicle door as a shield, the officer avoided injury. The suspect was apprehended without further incident, and police recovered a knife and a replica firearm at the scene.

The suspect, a Winnipeg resident, faces multiple charges, including assaulting a peace officer with a weapon, carrying a concealed weapon or prohibited device, and two counts of possession of a weapon.
