The Winnipeg Police Service’s Counter Exploitation Unit started a sexual exploitation investigation in Sept. 2024 after receiving a report of an adult male believed to be involved in the sexual assault of a female youth.

The investigation revealed that in Dec. 2023, the female youth met the male suspect over social media. The youth continued to communicate and met the suspect on several occasions for several months where she was sexually assaulted.
On Dec. 22, the 49-year-old man of Winnipeg turned himself in at Winnipeg Police Headquarters.
The suspect has been charged for sexual assault, sexual interference, obtaining sexual services from a person under 18 years of age, and luring a person under 16 years of age by means of telecommunication. He is detained in custody.
