Winnipeg man hospitalized with stab wounds after being attacked in a park

A man is recovering in hospital from stab wounds after being attacked Tuesday in the 100 block of Dumoulin Street, police said on Thursday.

Winnipeg police found the 24-year-old victim suffering from “life-threatening” injuries at 4:06 p.m. and provided emergency treatment including a chest seal before the man was taken to hospital.

Police said the victim and another man were together in Orange Park near St. Joseph Avenue and Notre Dame Street when a fight started and escalated to the point where the victim was “stabbed several times in the upper body.”

The weapon used in the assault was found, but the attacker fled the scene before police arrived.

Police describe the suspect as an Indigenous man, 20 to 25 years old, approximately 5-foot-5 with long black hair worn in a ponytail. They said the suspect was wearing a dark hoodie and khaki pants at the time of the attack.
