Winnipeg police said in a news release the man was arrested by major crimes unit members with assistance from store loss prevention officers and then connected to nine separate thefts from a grocery store on Reenders Drive in Transcona, totalling about $1,000 between February and July.

The man faces 10 charges of theft under $5,000 and also had a pair of outstanding warrants for failure to attend court.

Winnipeg Police Service tied the arrest to its Retail Theft Initiative, noting it remains committed to working with community partners and social service providers to support those facing challenges such as food insecurity, poverty, or addiction.
