Winnipeg man with sawed-off shotgun bikes into police cruiser

A 32-year-old Winnipeg man is facing multiple charges following an incident late Sunday night involving a near collision with a police cruiser. The encounter occurred shortly before midnight when the man exited the north back lane of Redwood Avenue on his bicycle, narrowly avoiding the marked vehicle.

Police attempted to stop the man, but he fled the scene. After a short foot pursuit, officers apprehended him in the 400 block of Boyd Avenue without incident. During the arrest, police noticed the barrel of what appeared to be a firearm protruding from the suspect’s backpack.

 

A subsequent search revealed a loaded sawed-off Winchester Model 12-gauge shotgun, 20 rounds of 12-gauge ammunition, and nine grams of fentanyl with an estimated street value of $3,600.

 

The man faces several charges, including possession of a loaded prohibited firearm, possession of fentanyl, and multiple weapons-related offenses.
