The investigation revealed that the suspect attempted to enter the building through the Winnipeg Walkway System at the Carlton Street entrance. Security guards denied entry due to the suspect’s agitated behaviour, believed to be influenced by intoxication. When asked to leave, the suspect became aggressive and confrontational.
The victim intervened to assist co-workers in de-escalating the situation. The suspect then assaulted the victim, causing him to fall to the ground. The suspect also damaged the victim’s glasses and nametag. The pin from the nametag was used in an attempt to stab the victim.
Paramedics treated the security guard for minor injuries, and he was released shortly after.
Police located the suspect nearby and took him into custody without further incident. The accused, a 20-year-old male from Winnipeg, faces charges of assault causing bodily harm, assault with a weapon, and mischief under $5,000. He remains in custody pending further legal proceedings.
