Winnipeg Police arrest suspect in armed robberies at two convenience stores

Winnipeg Police have arrested a 36-year-old man in connection with two armed robberies early Saturday morning. The incidents occurred at convenience stores on Lorette Avenue and Corydon Avenue, leaving three employees shaken but uninjured.

Police responded to the first robbery at approximately 1:30 a.m. at a store in the 700 block of Corydon Avenue. A man entered the store, brandished a knife, and fled on foot with stolen property valued at approximately $220.

Later, at around 5:00 a.m., police were called to a second robbery in the 900 block of Lorette Avenue. The same man reportedly robbed the store at knifepoint, taking items valued at approximately $210. A customer who intervened provided police with information that led officers to locate the suspect at the intersection of Grant Avenue and Stafford Street. He was arrested without incident, and a knife was recovered at the scene.

The employees involved in both incidents — a 28-year-old woman, a 65-year-old man, and a 25-year-old man — were not physically harmed during the robberies.

The suspect, a 36-year-old man from Winnipeg, has been charged with two counts of robbery and failing to comply with a condition of a release order. He remains in custody pending further legal proceedings. Police continue to investigate.
