Winnipeg police arrest teen in carjacking incident

Winnipeg police have arrested an 18-year-old in connection with a carjacking that took place on Watt Street on Monday.

Police said the incident began at about 1:30 p.m. when a 22-year-old man, while delivering a parcel in the 500 block of Harbison Avenue, was attacked with bear spray and robbed of his vehicle. The victim was treated for the effects of the spray.

Shortly after the carjacking, multiple citizens reported a vehicle driving erratically in the area, matching the description of the stolen car. Officers located the vehicle in a back lane near Bowman Avenue, east of Watt Street. After a brief foot chase, police apprehended the suspect without incident.

An 18-year-old Winnipeg man is facing charges of robbery, assault with a weapon, possession of a weapon, and failing to comply with a probation order. He remains in custody.
