Winnipeg police lay more sex assault charges on former teacher

A 37-year-old Winnipeg school teacher is facing additional charges after more students came forward in an ongoing investigation. Police initially charged the man on October 11, 2024, with voyeurism, sexual assault, sexual exploitation, possession, and accessing child pornography.

As the investigation progressed, police discovered evidence of sexually exploitative conversations and imagery. Investigators identified additional offences involving four survivors between the ages of 12 and 17, three of whom were students in a program where the man served as their mentor, while the fourth knew him from outside of school.

The investigation revealed that between January and May 2024, the man picked up a former teenage student who requested a ride, brought her to his residence, where she spent the night, and took photos of her during her stay. On January 22, a teenage female from the community was at his residence, where he secretly recorded a video of her while performing an indecent act.

Between February and March 2024, th man used grooming tactics to cultivate a sexually exploitative relationship with a female student who turned to him for emotional support, exchanging messages with her. On March 26, 2024, he picked up the same student, provided her with cannabis at his residence, and sexually assaulted her.

Sometime between July and August, the man picked up a former teenage student and another underage female, purchased liquor and cannabis for them, and consumed it together at his residence. Between September 17-19, he arranged to meet one of the aforementioned students in person, picked her up, and sexually assaulted her at his residence.

On December 17, 2024, the man was charged with additional offences, including voyeurism, making, printing, publishing or possessing child pornography, indecent exposure to a person under 16 years of age, luring a person under 18 years of age by means of telecommunication, and supplying liquor to a minor.
