Winnipeg police seek driver in hit-and-run collision with pedestrian

The Winnipeg Police Service is requesting public assistance in locating the driver involved in a hit-and-run collision with a pedestrian on June 25 at Main Street and James Avenue.

At approximately 11:50 a.m., police responded to the incident where an 18-year-old female pedestrian was struck by a southbound vehicle while crossing the street after disembarking from a transit bus. The vehicle, identified as a Chevrolet Equinox, failed to stop at the scene.

“The pedestrian was initially transported to hospital in unstable condition but has since been upgraded to stable,” the WPS said in a release on Wednesday. “Our Traffic Division continues to investigate the incident and is seeking information from the public to identify and locate the driver involved.”

Investigators urge anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of the Chevrolet Equinox or details about the driver to contact the Winnipeg Police Service immediately.

“We are urging the driver to come forward and cooperate with our investigation,” emphasized the police spokesperson. “It is vital that we gather all available information to ensure accountability in this case.”
