Winnipeg woman charged in 2022 slaying of senior

The Winnipeg Police Service has arrested a suspect in connection to the July 2022 death of James Monaghan, a 74-year-old Winnipeg resident. The Homicide Unit identified a suspect and arrested a 27-year-old Winnipeg woman on Friday.

The woman has been charged with second-degree murder and is in custody.

The investigation began on July 29, 2022, when police responded to a report of a deceased man at a residence in the 700 block of Sherburn Street at approximately 4:30 p.m. Upon arrival, officers found Monaghan deceased inside the residence. Due to suspicious circumstances surrounding the incident, the death was immediately treated as a homicide, leading the Homicide Unit to take over the case.

Further details about the investigation and the evidence leading to the woman’s arrest have not been disclosed. She will remain in custody as the case proceeds through the legal system.
