Police are looking for a man after a woman said she was sexually assaulted in a student residence at the University of Manitoba on Friday.

At about 5 a.m., Winnipeg police responded to a report of break, enter and assault at a student residence at the U of M. Officers met with the resident who reported that an intruder entered her suite while she was sleeping and assaulted her. She told police she fought off the attacker and called for help. University Security Services and police were alerted. The woman received medical treatment and is now in stable condition.
The Sex Crimes Unit is investigating and decscribe the suspect as being between 5-foot-10 and 6-foot tall, with unkempt facial hair and long hair. At the time of the attack, he was wearing a black toque, a black jacket over a grey hooded sweater, possibly blue jeans, and black shoes. He carried a black and blue backpack.
Police ask anyone who recognizes this individual or knows his whereabouts to contact the Sex Crimes Unit at 204-986-6245 or anonymously at Crime Stoppers 204-786-TIPS. The WPS is coordinating efforts with the University of Manitoba in response to the incident.
