And they were right. During the protest, according to reports, a woman was hit by a car during the protest at the downtown intersection after a person drove through the protest.

CBC video shows a person on the hood of a car while it turns from Main Street onto westbound Portage Avenue before falling off the vehicle as it accelerated around the corner.

Police had advised drivers to anticipate possible road closures in the downtown area during the protest to plan alternative routes.

The protest came after a woman died from her injuries after being hit by a police cruiser near a homeless camp in Fort Rouge on Monday.

While peaceful demonstrations are a fundamental right, the WPS emphasizes that all participants are expected to behave lawfully, courteously, and respectfully. WPS said in a press release that violence or unlawful behaviour will not be tolerated under any circumstances, and the WPS has assured the public that it will respond appropriately and professionally to any incidents of this nature.

Police said they are committed to maintaining public safety and minimizing disruptions as much as possible while respecting the right to protest. Citizens are reminded to stay informed of traffic updates and to avoid affected areas if possible.
