For a donation of $50, participants can “adopt” a metre of the trail and have their name or a loved one’s name featured on the trail.
“This year we’re inviting everyone who loves, uses, or takes pride in the river trail to support it in this exciting and meaningful new way,” said Sara Stasiuk, CEO of The Forks North Portage. “Everything great in Manitoba was built by people, friends, families, and communities coming together, and The Forks is no exception.”
Donors will receive a certificate and a tax receipt for their contribution.
The Nestaweya River Trail, which gets more than 200,000 visitors during longer seasons, requires significant resources to build and maintain. Despite no operational funding from government sources, the trail is an essential part of The Forks’ winter programming. Even in years with shorter seasons, the same resources are allocated to maintain the trail or support other activities on-site.
“If the Farmer’s Almanac is any tell, we’re in for a real Winnipeg winter this year,” said Stasiuk. “Seeing hundreds of people along the trail skating, skiing, walking, and rolling along makes me proud to be part of this community.”
