Body found in submerged vehicle thought to be that of missing Winnipeg woman

RCMP believe a body found inside a vehicle pulled from a pond in the Molson area Tuesday is that of a missing Winnipeg woman.

Brittany Dawn Storey, 29, had not been heard from since Thursday.

Manitoba RCMP said in a news release Tuesday night that their underwater recovery team went to an area where tracks led into a pond at about noon Tuesday.

The searchers found a submerged vehicle, which was removed from the pond.

A body was found inside. Investigators believe the body is Storey’s.

Identification will be confirmed by an autopsy.

Whitemouth RCMP continue to investigate the death, which happened in the southeastern Manitoba area.

Storey was last heard from while she was driving home from the Rennie area at about 4:10 p.m. Thursday after a get-together with friends. She was on a group phone chat when she told the group she had struck a tree and the call was cut off.

She did not answer her phone after that, Storey’s sister, Jada, told the Free Press Sunday.

The search in Molson, about 70 kilometres from Winnipeg’s last known whereabouts in Rennie, began Sunday, RCMP said Monday. Police deployed drones and the search-and-rescue team to survey the area, and the Civil Air Search and Rescue Association was in the air helping with the search.

RCMP said information led investigators to that area.
