City expands online permit options

The City of Winnipeg is expanding its online permit options.

On Monday, the city added new features to its Permits Online webpage that will let homeowners and contractors apply for most residential building permits, including new home construction, home additions, renovations, solar installations and demolitions (with some restrictions).

“These improvements not only streamline the permit process and improve customer service, but they help get us closer to our goal of approving more housing more quickly,” said Mayor Scott Gillingham, in a news release.

Permit applicants are also now able to save and return to partially completed permit applications for up to 30 days and view a record of submitted documents.

The release says the changes are a first phase in modernizing and streamlining the city’s online permit offerings.

Permits Online will also let each customer view a permit’s status and make payments, while contractors will be able to renew their licences.
