Winnipeg police confirmed they received several reports from local Jewish organizations about threatening emails Wednesday and deemed there was “no public risk.”
B’nai Brith Canada said Wednesday that more than 100 Jewish institutions across Canada received an email at about 6 a.m. CT threatening explosions.
Officers went to the local locations, the Winnipeg Police Service said in a news release Thursday morning.
“The threats were consistent with widespread national threats,” the release said.
The Jewish Federation of Winnipeg said Wednesday that several synagogues in the city filed police reports about the threats.
The WPS is investigating through co-ordinated efforts with the RCMP. Anyone with information about the threats can contact the WPS hate crimes co-ordinator at 204-986-6219 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 204-786-8477 (TIPS) or online.
RCMP said they were responding alongside local police to more bomb threats made to synagogues, museums, malls, ports and art galleries across Canada on Thursday. Police believe the threats are linked to those made Wednesday.
RCMP said they are working closely with domestic and international police to identify who might be involved in the threats and will provide an update on their investigation when they can.
