Crews extinguished four fires early Friday, including one that destroyed a house.
Firefighters were sent to a “large commercial structure” on the 2100 block of McPhillips Street at 11:07 p.m. Thursday and declared the fire under control at 12:28 a.m. Friday, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service said in a news release
The business was closed at the time. None of the staff members inside were hurt.
At 2 a.m., firefighters were sent to a fire in a restaurant in a multi-tenant commercial building at 145 St Anne’s Rd. Crews declared the fire at Bisikitchen & Hadiors Restaurant under control at 2:32 a.m. No one was inside.
At 3:07 a.m., crews were sent to a one-and-a-half storey house on the 700 block of Alexander Avenue. The fire was declared under control at 6:35 a.m., and crews remained there more than two hours later to make sure it was fully extinguished. A neighbouring house was temporarily evacuated as a precaution. The City of Winnipeg’s emergency social services team was sent to the scene to help displaced residents.
“The house has sustained significant smoke, fire and water damage and is believed to be a complete loss,” the WFPS said in a release.
At 4:48 a.m., crews were sent to a vacant two-storey multi-family residence on the 200 block of Evanson Street. They declared the fire under control at 5:28 a.m.
