Firefighters respond to two residential fires

Winnipeg firefighters responded to two residential fires overnight Saturday and early Sunday morning, one of which resulted in injuries for a firefighter.

The firefighter was injured on scene at a fire in the 600 block of McPhillips Street and was taken to hospital in stable condition. Crews were called to the single family bungalow just before 1:30 a.m. Aug. 18, and when they arrived, heavy smoke and flames were pouring from the house. The fire was declared under control about 45 minutes later, at 2:12 a.m. No occupants were found during a search of the house, and no other injuries were reported.

At 6:12 a.m., firefighters were called to a burning two-storey duplex in the 700 block of Pritchard Avenue. That fire was declared under control at 6:52 a.m., according to a City of Winnipeg news release. No occupants were located and no injuries were reported.

Both fires are still under investigation and no damage estimates were made available.
