Intruder sought after female attacked at U of M student housing

The city police sex crimes unit is searching for a suspect after an intruder physically assaulted a female in her suite in a student housing complex at the University of Manitoba.

Police were contacted about the incident on Dafoe Road at about 4:45 a.m. Friday.

The Winnipeg Police Service said the woman managed to fight off the intruder and called for help. University security was alerted, and police were contacted.

The female was treated for her injuries and was in stable condition Friday afternoon, the WPS said at a news conference.

The WPS said investigators are working closely with the U of M on the case.

Police released security images of the suspect. He is described as an adult, 5-10 to 6 feet in height, with unkempt facial hair and long unkempt hair. He was wearing a black tuque, a grey hooded sweater and a black jacket. He might have been wearing blue jeans and black shoes, and was carrying a black and blue backpack.
