‘It’s just surreal’: search for missing Winnipeg woman continues

Family members and friends of a woman missing for more than four days are desperately searching roadways and properties near Whiteshell Provincial Park, trying to find any trace of her.

Brittany Dawn Storey, 29, was driving home from the Rennie area at about 4:10 p.m. Thursday, after a get-together with friends, and was on a group phone chat. She told the group she had struck a tree; the phone call cut out.

That’s the last anyone has heard from her.

Storey’s sister, Jada, says numerous attempts to call her back were not answered.

On Sunday, Jada said RCMP have been helping look for her sister since last week, and the Winnipeg Police Service’s missing person unit has since joined the investigation.

“We want many people looking for her,” she said. “I really hope no one would do something to my sister, but we need to explore every avenue at this point.”

Jada said her sister hasn’t been back to her residence in Winnipeg and didn’t show up to work a shift at the bar she works at.

“Her dog was at her apartment,” she said. “If she was planning to go somewhere, she would have taken her dog with her. That’s her child and love in life.”

Storey’s mother, Denise Johnson, said she is looking in the area about a half-hour drive away around the community of Molson because that’s where a cell tower last pinged her daughter’s cellphone.

“It’s just surreal,” Johnson said.

“The last known place she was in was Molson, and police know she was driving for 26 minutes — that’s how long the call was — so, why are they looking in Molson? That’s why I’m looking further away. I haven’t stopped looking since Thursday, and I’ve spend at least 12 hours a day.

“I’m very concerned. Is she hurt? Is she trapped in the vehicle? Everything is going through my mind.”

Johnson said she is stopping every time she sees something white in the ditch.

“It could be part of her car, but then it turns out to be a white piece of garbage,” she said. “But I check. I even ignore “no trespassing signs” and drive up private roads. Call the police if you want, but I’m just looking for my daughter.”

RCMP said Storey is six foot, 130 pounds, with blond hair and blue eyes. She was driving a white 2016 Dodge Journey with Manitoba licence plate LFR 884.

RCMP are asking anyone with information on the disappearance to call the Whitemouth RCMP detachment at 204-348-2935 or Crime Stoppers at either 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).
