Kennedy Street assault now a homicide

City police are holding a news conference this afternoon regarding the city’s latest homicide, and two other incidents.

Police said Wednesday that a Tuesday assault on the 400 block of Kennedy Street is now a homicide. The Winnipeg Police Service told the Free Press Tuesday that a man was seriously assaulted near Central Park just before noon that day.

Officers were sent to the 400 block of Kennedy Street between Sargent and Cumberland avenues at about 11:50 a.m Tuesday..

Police found a man, believed to be in his 20s, suffering serious injuries. He was rushed to hospital in critical condition. A police spokesman said Tuesday that the incident was being investigated as a possible stabbing. No arrests had been made at that time.

Police will also be discussing an “officer-involved incident” on the 800 block of Arlington Street and a carjacking incident on the 100 block of Smith Street.
