Man, 47, dead after stabbing on Ellice

A 47-year-old man is dead after he was stabbed on Ellice Avenue Thursday night.

Winnipeg police said officers were called to the 1800 block of Ellice, between Berry and Marjorie streets, at about 10 p.m. Thursday.

Officers found the victim suffering from significant injuries and tried to provide him first aid before he was rushed to hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police said.

A 42-year-old man was arrested nearby. He has not yet been formally charged.

Homicide detectives have identified the victim, but haven’t released his name because they are working on informing his family, police said.

Police could be seen working near a bus shelter in front of the Airport Motor Inn on Ellice Friday morning.

Police have asked anyone with information, including potential surveillance video or dash camera footage, to call 204-986-6508 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 204-786-8477.

The area was the scene of an assault last September. A man in his 50s was robbed and beaten in an attack outside the hotel, then stabbed as he lay injured on the ground.
