Man arrested in drug investigation, hit-and-runs

A second man has been arrested after a driver fleeing police hit several vehicles — including a school bus — last month.

During an investigation into a drug-trafficking ring, police saw two men in a Jeep Compass using a storage locker on the 1200 block of Notre Dame Avenue on Dec. 11 and tried to pull the vehicle over.

The driver fled, hitting several vehicles near Sargent Avenue and Edmonton Street, including the school bus. Officers found the Compass abandoned, with fentanyl inside, elsewhere later that day.

Kevan Anderson, 41, was arrested Thursday.

Police issued arrest warrants for 41-year-old Kevan Anderson and 47-year-old Cory Kozmenski.

Anderson was arrested after a traffic stop in the Point Douglas area at 8:12 a.m Sunday. Police said in a news release Monday that he initially gave officers fraudulent identification and a fictitious name but was identified and arrested on outstanding warrants.

Police seized a sawed-off .22-calibre rifle with ammunition, 20 grams of fentanyl, six grams of crack cocaine and $225 cash that is believed to be proceeds of crime, the Winnipeg Police Service said. Anderson faces a total of 22 charges related to the drug-trafficking investigation and his arrest.

Kozmenski was arrested Dec. 26. Four other people were charged as part of the WPS investigation.
