Man dead in Niverville; police involved

A man is dead after an officer-involved shooting in Niverville Wednesday morning.

The incident happened about 3 a.m. in the Drovers Run area of the community, located about 40 kilometres south of Winnipeg.

An RCMP spokesperson told the Free Press Wednesday morning Mounties are investigating a second incident in the community of Otterburne that is connected to the shooting in Niverville.

“There were no injuries at this scene,” RCMP spokeswoman Tara Seel said by email. “There are no other people involved.”

Otterburne is 50 kilometres south of Winnipeg.

RCMP issued a news release about the incident in Niverville around 5:45 a.m. Wednesday.

Few details have been released; however, RCMP and Winnipeg police have a woman in custody and were searching for a man who fled in a stolen vehicle, the release said.

Police tape could be seen at a Shell gas station in Niverville.

Seel would not confirm that Mounties shot the man.

“We will provide more information as soon as we are able,” she said.
