A St. Boniface restaurant is closing its doors after a decade-long run.
Marion Street Eatery, located at 393 Marion St., posted on Instagram on Saturday that the business will be shutting down by the end of May.
“Our goal was never to do this forever,” said the post. “The time has come.”
Longtime friends Melissa Hryb and Laneil Smith opened the restaurant in February 2014.
Smith’s family purchased the Marion Hotel, in which the restaurant is located, in 1984. The breakfast and lunch spot focuses on serving up comfort food.
The restaurant was featured on Food Network Canada’s You Gotta Eat Here! and had provided in-flight meals for the Winnipeg Jets when the team was on the road.
“The importance of the last decade and the patrons who have made the Eatery their preferred meeting spot will never be lost on us,” the notice to customers states.
“Moving on is a big deal. You are all a big deal. We are profoundly saddened but hopeful. The journey of life will continue on. We will continue to explore, to challenge ourselves and to strive to do our best in our next venture.”
