Mayor keeps cabinet intact

Mayor Scott Gillingham is keeping his inner circle in place.

At an organizational meeting of city council Wednesday, all councillors who are members of the powerful executive policy committee, who each act as chairperson of a standing policy committee, kept their positions.

Jeff Browaty (North Kildonan) will remain as finance chair, Janice Lukes (Waverley West) will continue to cover public works, Sherri Rollins (Fort Rouge-East Fort Garry) will head property and development, Vivian Santos (Point Douglas) will lead community services and Evan Duncan (Charleswood-Tuxedo-Westwood) will head water and waste.

“Right now, everyone, I think, is doing very good work and there’s a lot of work left to do… The continuity of those chairs serving in the roles, I think, is important to get that work done,” said Gillingham, after the meeting.

Coun. Devi Sharma (Old Kildonan) was also re-elected to keep her role as council speaker.

And Coun. Brian Mayes (St. Vital), who was chairman of water and waste until the mayor replaced him this summer, will become a member of that committee.
