Mom who abducted sons a second time arrested: RCMP

A woman wanted for allegedly abducting her three sons a second time after they were placed in care has been arrested again.

RCMP in Fort Qu’Appelle, Sask., were told Wednesday that Astrid Schiller and the three boys were in the community. Officers arrested the 55-year-old mother on an unendorsed warrant out of Manitoba for child abduction.

“Her three children were placed into care and are currently in the process of being reunited with family in Ontario,” Manitoba RCMP said in a news release Friday.

Schiller was transported to Brandon, where she was remanded into custody.

Manitoba RCMP asked for the public’s help in finding Schiller and her sons on June 17. The boys were 12, 11 and 9 at the time.

Boissevain RCMP were called at about 2 a.m. on June 16 after the four family members showed up at the border, trying to enter the United States. The boys, who were reported missing in December, were taken into care, and their mother was arrested.

She was wanted by the Durham Regional Police Service on a warrant of arrest for three counts of child abduction and a single count of disobeying a court order. Manitoba RCMP said she was later released from custody because the warrant was not extended into this province.

Less than 24 hours after they were found, Blue Hills RCMP were told the three boys were again missing after having been placed in care in Forrest, Man.

RCMP said at the time that they believed the boys were with their mother and released a description of a vehicle she was believed to be driving.
