Kidnapper shot himself during crime: RCMP

1:16 PM

Two people have been charged in a kidnapping, including one who suffered life-threatening injuries from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

RCMP were called about a shooting outdoors at Gods Lake Narrows at 8 a.m. Monday and found a 35-year-old man who had been shot.

He was transported to Winnipeg for treatment and was in hospital in stable condition Friday, RCMP said.

An investigation found the man and a 28-year-old woman kidnapped a 28-year-old man at gunpoint, took him to the shooting location and confined him there, RCMP said.

Mountie said the older man suffered the self-inflicted wound while committing the crime. No one else was hurt.

The two accused have been charged with kidnapping with a firearm and forcible confinement. Mounties did not release their names. The woman remains in custody.

More charges are expected, police said Friday.
