One person is dead after a fire at a duplex on Selkirk Avenue Monday evening.
Fire crews arrived at the two-and-a-half storey duplex in the 1400 block of Selkirk just before 11 p.m. and found heavy smoke and flames coming from the residence, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service said in a news release Tuesday.
Some residents of the duplex managed to flee the fire and told crews that one person was believed to be inside, the release said.
Firefighters located the person and pulled them from the building. The person was transported to hospital in critical condition, where they were pronounced dead, the release said.
No details about the victim were released.
A cat also died in the fire.
The fire was declared under control by 12:15 a.m. Tuesday.
The fire is under investigation and damage estimates were not available.
