Police board member faces removal for alleged breach of ethics code

A member of the Winnipeg Police Board could soon be removed from his position, after the board alleges he breached its code of ethical conduct.

A motion at Wednesday’s executive policy committee meeting called to officially revoke Kyle Mason’s board membership but does not offer details of the situation.

Former police board member Colleen Mayer will be reappointed to the board to fill the position through Dec. 31 and become vice-chair of the board, if city council gives final approval to the changes. EPC voted in favour of doing so Wednesday.

A biography on the city’s website describes Mason as an “an experienced award-winning Indigenous leader, consultant, and speaker with a proven track record of making a difference.”

Winnipeg Police Board chairman Coun. Markus Chambers declined to share any details of the alleged breach.
