Police close Notre Dame due to alleged shooting

The Winnipeg Police Service has closed off Notre Dame Avenue between Beverley and Home streets after a person was shot Tuesday, a witness told the Free Press.

Jessica Hatfield said she was with her roommate around 5 p.m. when she heard a gunshot followed by a “scream of pain.”

She said she saw a person shot in the chest, lying on the crosswalk at Tecumseh Street and Notre Dame Avenue near Health Sciences Centre. She later saw an ambulance treat the person and take them away on a stretcher.

Winnipeg police posted on X at 7:40 p.m. that the streets were closed “due to a police incident.”

Reached by the Free Press, a police spokesperson said officers were dealing with a “major incident,” but declined to provide further details.
