Polls open in Tuxedo byelection

Voters are heading to the polls today to pick a new MLA in the Tuxedo constituency.

Polls for the byelection are now open and close at 8 p.m. tonight.

The seat has been vacant since former premier and Progressive Conservative Party leader Heather Stefanson resigned earlier this spring.

Lawyer Lawrence Pinsky has been nominated to represent the Tories in a riding that has been a stronghold for the party, while the NDP is running Carla Compton, a registered nurse.

Jamie Pfau, a foster parent advocate, is running for the Liberals, while Green Party Leader Janine Gibson is also on the ballot.

The NDP came close to taking the seat it in the provincial election last October.

Results will be posted on Elections Manitoba’s website once they become available after polls close.
