The federal government, the city and a First Nation announced funding Friday for a seven-storey apartment building on Chancellor Drive.
The funding includes $32.2 million from Ottawa through the affordable housing fund, $3.5 million from Roseau River Anishinaabe First Nation and $2.8 million in tax rebates from the City of Winnipeg.
Paragon Design Build said on its website in 2023 that it had a project in the works at 939 Chancellor Dr. At a Friday news conference, it was revealed that the building will be called the Chancellor and feature apartments with one to three bedrooms.
The building will have a mix of heated underground and surface parking, and an outdoor common patio space. Most units will have a balcony.
Forty per cent of the 95 units — 38 — will be affordable housing, with rents below 70 per cent of the median market rent. Roseau River members will have first dibs on the affordable apartments before they are made available to the general public.
Construction began this summer and is expected to be completed within 18 months, a federal news release said.
