September was hottest on record in Winnipeg

Last month was the hottest September in Winnipeg on record, information from Environment Canada shows.

The monthly mean temperature was 17.8 C, the highest in 153 years of record-keeping for the city. The previous record, 16.8 C, was set in September 1948.

Morden and Emerson were even hotter and broke their own records, with monthly mean temperatures of 18.2 C and 18.1 C, respectively.

Portage la Prairie had the same mean temperature as Winnipeg at 17.8 C, which is the second-warmest September on record there.

Several other Manitoba communities also set records. Sprague, Swan River, The Pas, Flin Flon and Thompson all had record-high Septembers.

Besides Portage la Prairie, Dauphin, Brandon and Churchill all had their second-warmest Septembers on record, while Lynn Lake had its third-warmest.

Lynn Lake had the fewest years of data at 70.
