Seven now charged after captive woman beaten

Police have arrested five more suspects after a woman was held against her will and repeatedly assaulted in Kinosao Sipi Cree Nation.

RCMP said Friday that officers arrested the five people in the past several days. Bryce Ettawacappo, 35; Alicia Ettawacappo, 32; Chad Keeper, 20; Drake Balfour, 18; and Shanita Ettawacappo, 18, have been charged with a variety of offences related to the incident.

Two other people were arrested June 1, the day the woman was found. Russel York, 31, and Stephanie Anderson-Paupanekis, 32, are charged with aggravated assault, forcible confinement, unsafe storage of firearms and unauthorized possession of firearms.

Police continue to look for two suspects, in addition to the seven already arrested. No information about those two suspects was released.

The victim remained in hospital Friday. Norway House RCMP were notified regarding a severely injured 34-year-old woman who had been found outside on the morning of June 1. The victim was eventually transported to a Winnipeg hospital with life-altering injuries.

Officers seized a gun and drug paraphernalia from the home where the incident was suspected to have taken place over several days. The first two arrests were made at another home in the community.

RCMP said previously that the victim and suspects know each other.
