Suspects sought after fleeing vehicle hits school bus

Police are on the lookout for two men accused of smashing into several vehicles, including a school bus, with an SUV while evading officers.

The Winnipeg Police Service began investigating a drug-trafficking ring and identified suspects in November.

Investigators saw two men in a 2004 Jeep Compass go to a storage locker on the 1200 block of Notre Dame Avenue and tried to pull the SUV over at about 8:30 a.m. Wednesday, police said Friday.

The driver drove east on Notre Dame and ended up colliding with vehicles near Sargent Avenue and Edmonton Street, including the school bus. No one was hurt.

Police found the vehicle in a parking lot on the 800 block of St. James Street at about 8:40 a.m. Officers found 13.3 grams of fentanyl inside, the WPS said.

Police have obtained arrest warrants for the two men alleged to have abandoned the SUV and warned the public that both should be considered armed and dangerous. Cory Kozmenski, 47, is wanted on 23 drug, gun and court-breach offences. Kevan Anderson, 41, is wanted on 13 similar offences.

Police arrested a suspect allegedly connected to the investigation as he left a home on the 500 block of Spence Street at about 10:22 a.m. Wednesday. Police seized 327 grams of cocaine, 190 grams of methamphetamine, 103 grams of fentanyl, illegal cigarettes and a scale.

Jerrold McIvor, 42, has been charged with four counts of possession of drugs for the purpose of trafficking, possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000 and trafficking in contraband tobacco.

Investigators and tactical officers executed search warrants on the Notre Dame search locker and the home on Spence at about 10:48 a.m. Wednesday.

Police seized a .22-calibre rifle, two magazines for the rifle, 545 grams of fentanyl, 327 grams of meth, 232 grams of cocaine, Tylenol 3 pills, nearly 20,000 contraband cigarettes, drug-packaging materials and paraphernalia, two stolen saxophones, two stolen guitars and $25,745 in cash.

Police arrested three other people — a man and two women — in connection with the investigation.
