Suspects sought after woman carjacked leaving William Avenue church

Police are searching for three suspects after a woman was carjacked after leaving a church on William Avenue late Sunday night.

The incident happened on the 500 block of William Avenue at about 9:15 p.m.

Police said the 34-year-old victim was approached by two males and a female. One of the suspects was armed.

The suspects demanded the woman’s keys, forcibly removed her from her vehicle and stole some personal property before driving away.

The victim did not require medical treatment, the Winnipeg Police Service said in a news release Tuesday morning.

The female suspect was described about 5-5” in height, with a skinny build and small tattoo near her right eye. She was wearing a red hoodie with a grey jacket over top and grey pants.

One of the male suspects was described as about 5-5” in height, with a skinny build. He was wearing a baseball cap and a grey hoodie. The other was about 5-6” in height and was wearing a grey jacket or hoodie.

A police spokesman said Monday that 56 carjackings were reported to police as of the end of last month, which is 16 per cent fewer than 2023 and 22 per cent lower than the five-year average.

A 45-year-old woman was run over by a carjacker downtown Saturday. The woman suffered “significant” injuries when the fleeing carjacker ran over her with her Toyota Tundra shortly after it was taken from a parking lot near York Avenue and Carlton Street at about 2:10 p.m.

Police later recovered the pickup truck in Elmwood.

The WPS asked anyone with information about either incident to contact its major crimes unit at 204-986-6219, or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 204-786-8477 (TIPS) or online.
