Teen cyclist injured after being struck by vehicle on Wellington Crescent

A teenage cyclist was injured Monday evening after she was hit by a vehicle near the intersection of Wellington Crescent and Academy Road.

The Winnipeg Police Service said the accident happened around 8:45 p.m. Monday.

The teen, who was cycling with a parent, was hospitalized but has since been released, Const. Dani McKinnon said Tuesday morning. Her parent was not injured.

The driver remained on scene and police were called.

McKinnon said the driver may have experienced a “medical event” while driving and also sustained some injuries.

On June 6, Rob Jenner, 61, was killed on Wellington near Cockburn Street when he was hit by an eastbound vehicle.

Jenner was cycling to his job at the Canadian Museum for Human Rights when he was killed by a speeding driver who fled the scene.

Beckham Keneth Severight, 19, is charged with dangerous driving causing death and failing to stop at the scene.

On July 25, more than 100 cyclists gathered outside the museum to honour Jenner.

Organizers called for the city’s bike network to be completed to improve safety.
