Police identified the victim as Zeyad Shammo, 22, of Ontario.

The WPS had asked for the public’s help in finding him Wednesday night and said in a news release Friday evening that he had “been located.”

Police said in the Wednesday news release that Shammo had last been seen in the Bridgwater Forest area of southwest Winnipeg at about 6:20 p.m. on Sept. 9 and gave a description of the man and his car.

His death is considered a homicide, and two suspects who knew the victim were identified by investigators and arrested with the help of the tactical support team.

Sonny Balemba, 26, and Robert James Chaykowski, 26, have been charged with first-degree murder, kidnapping and extortion. Chaykowski is also charged with four counts of failing to comply with a release order.

Both men were detained in custody.

The WPS major crimes unit is asking anyone with information about the slaying to contact them at 204-986-6219, or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 204-786-8477 (TIPS) or online.
