Police are investigating separate violent incidents where people were injured by strangers downtown.
A 45-year-old woman was run over by a carjacker who had just stolen her pickup truck in a parking lot near the intersection of York Avenue and Carlton Street on Saturday afternoon. Police were sent to the scene at about 2:12 p.m.
The Winnipeg Police Service said the woman suffered significant injuries and was transported to hospital in unstable condition. She was later upgraded to stable, the WPS said late Monday afternoon.
The stolen Toyota Tundra was later recovered by police in the Elmwood area.
Late Sunday night or early Monday morning, a senior was shot in the head with a BB gun while walking downtown. Police were sent to the area of Hargrave Street and Portage Avenue at about midnight Monday.
The victim, who is in his 70s, was transported to hospital in unstable condition and later upgraded to stable.
The senior said he was walking along Hargrave after leaving a restaurant when he was suddenly shot. Three youths fled the area, the WPS said.
Witnesses in the area provided descriptions to police. Two boys, ages 12 and 14, and a 13-year-old girl were eventually taken into custody. They are facing assault and firearm-related charges and remained in police custody late Monday morning.
Investigators believe the suspects were shooting the BB gun at strangers and that there might be more victims who have not yet been identified.
Police asked anyone with information about the carjacking or the shooting incidents to contact the major crimes unit at 204-986-6219, or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 204-786-8477 (TIPS) or online.
